ILWU International Secretary-Treasurer Ed Ferris and International Executive Board member Melvin Mackay were interviewed by local television station KHOU in Houston. Ferris and Mackay, along with Local 19 member Tyrone Harvey, traveled to Houston to attend the memorial service of George Floyd who was killed by police in Minneapolis. Floyd’s death at the hands of police sparked nation-wide outrage and two-weeks of on-going protests that have put the issue of police violence, racial inequality, criminal justice reform and calls to defund police at the center of the national debate.
